CASA GOMEZ

Casa | Trinidad, Cuba

DESCRIPTION

Casa Name: Casa Gomez

Address: Calle Colón, between Jesús Menéndez (Alameda) & Julio Antonio Mella (Guásima), Trinidad, Cuba.

Our Casa: Dates back to the 1830’s, it is an old colonial style Casa with high ceilings and a leafy patio area at the back of the house. Located on a quiet street in the historical center of Trinidad, the Casa is only a short walk along the cobbled streets to Plaza Mayor and Casa de la Trova. It is also a short walk to the BANDEC bank and Parque Cespedes.

The hosts: My mother and I, Sra Hortensia Clará (a retired literature teacher) and Ricardo Gómez Clará, have been receiving guests into our home since 2005. I am an Engineer and can speak very good English. We can offer you lovely home cooked meals as well as organise activities and excursions in Trinidad.

Our rooms: We have 2 rooms on the first floor, both rooms have 2 double beds with private bathroom facilities and a minibar.

What did we like - Autencia is a beautiful lady who cooked amazing breakfast in the mornings, the mini bar fridge in the room was stocked with water and cold drinks and the air con was really good!

What didn't we like - no access to kitchen facilities (but don't think we are allowed) also a bit of a language barrier for people who can't speak any Spanish

ETRC response – Hortencia’s English is minimal, but her son Ricardo has a better command of the English language and is happy to speak with guests in English. Casas in Cuba, are more like bed and breakfast establishments rather than backpacker hostels where you get access to kitchen facilities. Casas in Cuba don’t usually offer use of the kitchen, this is a private area for the family. Hortencia however did offer use of plates, cutlery and hot water for you to prepare a simple meal. There are some Casas in Cuba that are more like private apartments with use of the kitchen facilities, this often comes at a different price to just a room in a Casa with a family.
